If they are not, it’s a brilliant satire. If the authors are serious, this is a silly, distasteful book. This attitude was mirrored from the board of directors all the way down to the orderlies. To ask why this is so would be a far more useful project. Since a physician's number of admissions to the hospital and referral pattern determined the degree of attention and regard accorded by colleagues, it was safe for our peers to ignore us and target those in position to send over income-producing referrals. Falling Leaves by Adeline Yen Mah - Reading Guide: 9780767903578 - : Books The emotionally wrenching yet ultimately uplifting memoir of a Chinese woman struggling to win the love and acceptance of her family. She was the first child in the Yen family to be given a foreign education. We were also resented because being hospital-based and not having to rent office space or hire nursing staff, we had low overheads. Falling Leaves The True Story of an Unwanted Chinese. Apart from colour, we were shunned because we did not bring in patients ourselves but, like vultures, lived off the patients generated by other doctors. Last on the list were the hospital-based physicians: the radiologists, pathologists and anaesthesiologists - especially non-white, female ones like me. At the top were the white male 'primary producers' in prestigious surgical specialties. There was an unspoken pecking order of seating arrangements at lunch among my fellow physicians. The easy camaraderie prevailing in the operating room evaporated at the completion of surgical procedures. “In the early 1970s, racial and gender discrimination was still prevalent.

Thin Places: Essays from In Between by Jordan Kisner Painfully pointless just skip the dribble. I was totally convinced that I had somehow downloaded the wrong book. So firstly, just skip the Introduction as it is worse than just plain awful writing it carries the extra sin of completely pointless to the subject matter. It was Stormbringer not Elric that we wanted It would be one thing if the introduction was a biopic of Moorcock or a literary study of the Elric novels. This child-sexualization essay needs to be removed immediately, it has nothing to do with Moorcock's writings or characters. Many people will probably purchase this, think the awful essay at the beginning is part of the compendium and decide not to listen, to their own loss and to the loss of Audible and Recorded books. It is unthinkable and unforgivable then that Audible and Recorded Books chose to open this set with a half-hour fan fiction which amounts to child pornography and has only one or two references to Moorcock and the character Elric. They contain lush descriptions, perfect pacing, deep moral dilemmas and stunning allegory. The Elric novels are 23 1/2 hours of this book, and are some of the best fictions I have ever read. Michael Moorcock's writing is some of the finest in the English language. Skip the first chapter, it's not Moorcock. |
